Jonah

We began our study of Jonah last Sunday and discovered that the book of Jonah is more about the nature of God than it is about a whale.

The following are some of the things that we discovered in the first 5 verses of the first chapter:

1) God initiates or pursues his children to carry out His purposes v1
2) God is more concerned about evil than we will ever be v1
3) Wickedness affects God and prompts His action to warn, forgive, or bring judgment depending upon how we respond to His warning
4) God's offer of mercy today is not hindered by His knowledge of how we might respond in the future.
5) God has given "man" the unique right among all of his creation to choose to disobey God's commands v3-4
6) God will go to great lengths to get His disobedient children to turn back to Him v4
7) Our acts of rebellion will always have consequences that affect not only us but those around us as well v5

We will continue our study of Jonah with the 5th verse of chapter 1 next Sunday.

Our homework is to discover the "theme" of the book of Jonah.

Also I am taking requests for our study of the next minor prophet after we complete Jonah. Let me know if there is one of minor prophets that you would like to study.

I look forward to seeing you all there.
